Tea Tuesday: Tea Bread

I have been trying to get my husband to drink tea with me for years.  He just doesn't appreciate the drink as I do.  But, I have found a way that he does enjoy tea.  In food.  This week my daughter made tea bread with Tealightful Tea's Lavender Lemon Tea Cake tea.  It was delicious and my husband loved it.  Actually, we all did.  He also loved homemade ice cream with Cherry Rose Petals tea from Tealightful Teas.

Do you make food with tea?

Habits of a Child's Heart

Habits of a Child's Heart: Raising Your Kids with the Spiritual Disciplines - By: Valerie E. Hess, Marti Watson Garlett

I'm reposting this because I am trying this again this year.  We just got too distracted last year ...

I wanted to share a book, Habits of a Child's Heart:  Raising your kids with the Spiritual Disciplines.   I've used it years ago with my older kids, and I am planning on using it again this year.  It has twelve chapters which makes it perfect to focus on one habit a month as a family.  The book also has practice and teaching suggestions for different ages of children.

Chapters include:  Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study, Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, Service, Confession, Worship, Guidance, and Celebration.

So, this month we will focus on Meditation.  I will meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.  I will delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.  Psalm 119:15-16.

An example to share about meditating in God's Word is using tea.  Brew tea with your children and talk about "how we are the hot water and the Word of God is the tea bag.  The longer the tea soaks in us, the more we become stained with the likeness of God."  Then use a tea bag as a book mark in your Bible for the rest of the month.  Of course, I love tea and my kids know this, so this is a perfect way to share this discipline with my children.

This seems like a great way to start the new year!

Tea Tuesday - Herbal Tea Playdough

This was so fun.  We made playdough with Summer Berries herbal tea.  The tea smelled so good and the color from the tea was beautiful.  We are going to make some orange spice playdough and who knows what else.

We used a recipe that I pinned on my Tea Pinterest board.

That Reminds Me

found at Amazon

That Reminds Me by Jean Brown Eittreim is a great little book filled with 200 story-starters for passing on your faith.  I have pulled it out at dinner times, holidays, vacations, visits with grandparents, bedtime or tea time.  Sometimes all we need are some prompts to help us share what is important or has shaped our faith.  I could only find it for Kindle on Amazon right now, but that works - especially if you have Kindle on your phone like I do.

Tea Tuesday - National Hot Tea Month

Tea, tea, tea.  It is like a bubble bath for me.  Relaxing in some of the chaos of life.

And it's National Hot Tea Month!  Yay!

Here's some fun ways to enjoy your tea this month:

1.  Try loose leaf tea if you haven't before.  It's so much more flavorful.  A couple of my favorites are Tea Spot's Bolder Breakfast, Tealightful Teas Coconut Almond Crème Cake, and Tea Table Chocolate Mint.

2.  Make your oatmeal with tea.  A nice way to flavor your oatmeal.

3.  Make your hot chocolate with tea.  Peppermint or Spearmint are nice.

4.  Make your rice with tea.

5.  Take a bath with tea.  Green tea is great for your skin.

There are more ideas on my Pinterest Tea Board too.

    Tea Lover's Devotions to Go

One of my favorite devotion books was this one,  Tea Lovers' Devotions to Go.  I read it about a year ago (free on my kindle app).  She writes about tea being an experience and a refreshment to the soul, especially as we steep ourselves in God's Word.  She makes several Biblical analogies to the tea experience.  I loved it and learned some new things both about tea and about drawing close to God in His Word.

I hope to read a couple other devotion books with a tea theme in the next couple of months.  A good devotion book is like a warm cup of tea all by itself.

Sara and Tea (my 2nd blog)

Right now my tea is brewing.  I don't think I've gone a day without a cup of tea for as long as I can remember.  I call it my "sereni-tea".  Sipping a warm cup of tea brightens my day.  In the summer I do add iced tea to the hot tea since we don't have air conditioning.  It's just too hot to drink hot tea at times.

My favorite time, especially on vacation, is to drink a nice warm cup of tea early in the morning, maybe as the sun is rising outside on a deck or patio.  It makes me think of camping trips when I wake up before the rest of the family and start the Coleman stove to heat up my water.  Or maybe overlooking the ocean.  But most of the time I'm just at home and a cup of tea brings that vacation feeling to me.

On this blog I hope to be writing about tea - my favorite teas, tips for making tea, crafts with tea themes, tea moments and memories, steeping in God's Word with a cup of tea, sharing tea with friends, tea parties, tea and books, and all things tea.  I would love to have you join me to learn more about tea at Sara's Tea Time.  Of course I'll still be here writing about our family, homeschool, and anything else on my mind.

    Recent Homeschool Field Trips

Besides all of our adventures on vacation we have also visited a local Maple Sugar House and the local newspaper. Both were great!  It is sugaring season where we live and the sap is running.  Many of our friends are in the sap making business.  We toured the sugar farm of a local home school family and then had a sugar party with consists of sugar on snow (syrup poured on snow and twirled on a fork like taffy), a donut (for fun), and a pickle (take a bite every now and then to cut down on the sweetness so you can eat more syrup).  We still had snow, so then the kids played.  There was a hint of spring in the air which was nice.  But I also had my cup of tea to cut down on the chill in my toes.

We visited the local paper with a different home school group.  I have always wanted to take the kids there.  I used to want to work for the paper.  When I was in high school I was on the newspaper staff and I also wrote and worked for a couple of local area papers.  So, it brought back memories of those days.

    Cody liked the Big Machines!
Spring is field trip season for us.  We are ready to get out and about again.  We are hoping to tour a flour mill, a vet hospital, and the airport yet this spring.

What field trips does your family do?
